WARRENSBURG, MO. - The death of David Cook's older brother, Adam, has one University of Central Missouri professor reflecting on his relationship with both men.

Dave Barabas was Adam Cook's college roommate, and David Cook's college professor, so he knows first-hand the special bond the brothers had.

The graphic arts professor got to know Adam Cook over two summers when they roomed together at Indiana State University. He said the two became fast friends.

"He was probably one of the funniest people. Great sense of humor. Would do anything for you, real sharp dresser, real sharp person," said Barabas.

Adam Cook went on to become a successful young attorney in Terre Haute, Ind. Barabas landed in Warrensburg. And one day got a heads up that another Cook brother would be coming his way.

"So I happened to get an email one day from Adam Cook, saying how are you doing, and by the way, my younger brother's coming down, can you help him out?" said Barabas.

So Barabas helped David throughout his college career and kept in touch with Adam through his years of battling cancer.

Last week, as David returned to the area for concerts in Kansas City and on the UCM campus, he spoke with Barabas who believes the hometown shows were a source of relief.

"I'm certain it was weighing on his mind, but this was a bright spot not only for him to come to the Kansas City area, but to come home to his alma mater," said Barabas. "I'm certain that helped take his mind off of it, or help salve some of that pain."

On Monday, David Cook posted a message to fans on his official web site about his brother and his brother's legacy.
