Sex Offender Puts End to 55-Year Santa Letter Tradition
NORTH POLE, ALASKA - Kids around the world write letters to Santa every year, but this year they may not get a response. The US Postal Service is dropping a popular effort started back in 1954 in the small town of North Pole, Alaska.

Every year, volunteers responded to more than 150,000 letters addressed to Santa. But last winter there were some privacy concerns when a postal worker in Maryland recognized a volunteer as a registered sex offender.

The postal service now prohibits volunteers in the United States from having access to children's last names and addresses. The postal service in Alaska said dealing with tighter restrictions isn't feasible, so the program had to stop.

Several websites listed below offer letters from Santa, and even emails from Santa.
