CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) — With St. Louis on the verge of losing its only classical music station, a station based 100 miles to the south hopes to fill the void.
KRCU Public Radio is based at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. University officials say that with a power increase and antenna upgrade at a repeater station in Farmington, the goal is to get classical music to the St. Louis region.
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod announced last month it will sell its classical station KFUO-FM to Joy FM. The station will play classical music until the FCC approves the deal.
SEMO officials say the increase in signal strength should help KRCU reach into south St. Louis County, but it may also be accessible to listeners elsewhere in the metropolitan area.
