JACKSON COUNTY - A man is behind bars for allegedly holding his estranged girlfriend against her will and sexually assaulting her. Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies said the man who lives in Lone Jack wanted to get back with his ex-girlfriend and met up with her to reconcile. But police said when he brought her back to his home on Friday morning, he wouldn't let her leave.

According to police, the victim said she tried to leave between late Friday and early Saturday morning but the suspect grabbed her hair and handcuffed her to the bed and repeatedly raped her.

"We were contacted by the victim and we responded to her location and she indicated she had been held over several days by a person known to her and that she was sexually assaulted during that time," Sgt. Steve Leone said.

Sheriff's deputies said the woman was eventually dropped off near her home on Monday afternoon.

Investigators used flash bangs to execute a search warrant and arrest the suspect Monday night. Formal charges have not yet been filed.

"I heard flash bangs, I thought I heard gunshots but I can't tell the difference," neighbor Pam Reeves said. "I heard glass breakage and then all hell broke loose."

Mary Riley said the man accused of the alleged crime is not the man she knows.

"Keeps to himself, helps out others and I've never heard of him being violent to anybody," Riley said.

But some neighbors said the couple argued constantly and some believe their love was one sided.

"He gave and gave and gave and she took and took and took until there was nothing else to take and then she moved out," Reeves said.

While neighbors said their friends are now part of a police case they said it started as a love story that has unfortunately ended up in lock up.

Sheriff's deputies said they will continue investigation in this case and turn over their reports to the prosecutor's office for formal charges.
