Kansas Casino Rules May Change

Developers of a casino in Wyandotte County are asking legislators not to change the rules governing gambling in Kansas. Kansas law allows slots at three dog and horse racing tracks. But the tracks' owners say the state's take of the slot revenue is too high, and all three tracks remain closed.

Some legislators want to lower the amount of revenue state and local governments receive from slot machines at the track. Kansas Entertainment LLC has a contract to build a casino near Kansas Speedway in Wyandotte County, close to the The Woodlands race track in Kansas City, Kan. Kansas Entertainment says changing the gambling laws will jeopardize its investment by allowing the tracks to reopen and compete with the casinos for slot revenue. A casino that opened in Dodge City in December is the only casino operating Kansas.
