Kansas City, Missouri firefighters and police officers are investigating an explosion at 17th and Walnut on Thursday afternoon. Joe Vitale with the KCMO Fire Department said they were closing off the immediate area and doing a sweep for other explosive devices.
Darin Snapp with KCMO Police said witnesses at the scene said a man put an unknown item in a metal yellow clothing donation box in the parking lot of the Valero station. Witness said the man walked away and then they heard an explosion.
16th to 18th Streets on Grand are closed while KCPD Bomb and Arson investigate. There were no injuries reported.
