During a procession led by the Patriot Honor Guard, people lined the streets of Smithville, Plattsburg and Lathrop on Tuesday to honor a Missouri soldier killed in Afghanistan. Issac Jackson, 27, from Lathrop died last month after an explosive device went off, killing him and six others.

Jackson was assigned to Fort Lewis in Washington.

Governor Nixon has ordered all flags in Clinton County be lowered to half staff from November 4 until November 10th in Jackson's honor and all U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in all 114 counties and the city of St. Louis be flown at half-staff for one full day on Wednesday, the day of Jackson's funeral in Lathrop.

Jackson's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Achievement Medal 2, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star 2, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon 2, the NATO Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

"During our rotation, our common rotation, the casualty rate was higher than it was in Iraq at the time," Staff Sgt. John Phillips said. "Which was pretty high. He saw his fair share of the fight. He chose to remain in the Army, knowing that's what it was. He considered it his duty to give his life and at least a few years of it for the American people, and it wound up being the whole of it."

As his casket passed by, people left saying they have a greater appreciation for their freedom

Jackson is survived by an 18-month-old son and his wife is nearly eight months pregnant. She's due next month. Jackson's family said they can't thank enough the community around Lathrop and Plattsburg enough for the support they've received to get through this difficult time.

Relatives said they also want to thank President Obama for being there when the fallen soldiers returned to the United States in Dover, Delaware last week.
