KANSAS CITY, MO -
A metro man who found himself arrested in connection to the Mohler family child sex case, and then released a day later, says that being thrust into the spotlight in such a bizarre case has been a "horrible nightmare."
Larry Kidd of Kansas City, Missouri, told FOX 4 that he was clueless when he was suddenly thrust into the middle of a case that he calls "horrific" crimes against children.
"I was watching it on the news as well going 'How could they?'" said Kidd, who said he was watching the case unfold on television when authorities in Lafayette County showed a flow chart indicating a sixth suspect.
"(I) did not realize they were looking for me," said Kidd.
The case started when five members of the Mohler family were arrested on charges including rape, sodomy and assault. On Thursday night, Kidd says that police plucked him from the bed of his Kansas City home following an anonymous call to the TIPS Hotline.
Kidd says that police questioned him about the Mohler family.
"I do not know them, know of them, nothing about them, never been out there, never, never, never," said Kidd. "And police figured that out."
Kidd says that he will now go back to work as a painter, and that his anger over being pulled into this case has turned into acceptance. He says that police were just doing their job, and he hopes that justice is served for everybody who actually is involved.
Kidd says he does know one of the alleged sex abuse victims, but that he had no clue about that person's past. He says that now that he knows about the case from police, he says that he has terrible feelings about the memories that his friend, the alleged victim, must be dealing with.
"Why anybody would think that I had anything to do with what these other guys had something to do with, I will never know," said Kidd.
