LIBERTY, MO - Around 80 volunteers spent their Saturday helping to repair damage in a Liberty, Missouri, cemetary after vandals caused thousands of dollars of damage last month.

The vandals damaged or destroyed 176 headstones at the Fairview Cemetery.

"I was really surprised when we came out and saw off the headstones down," said volunteer Nancy Barcus, who was among the dozens of people who came out to restore the historic cemetery. "This is great there are so many people who've come out to help."

"We're trying to get them back to the way they were prior to the vandalism taking place," said Dennis Dovel, director of the Liberty Parks and Recreation Department. Police have offered a $7,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of any suspects.

"This community has always been a very good community as far as wanting to assist and rise to the occasion when needs occur," said Dovel. "This is a prime example."

If you have any information about the vandalism, please contact the Liberty Police Department.
