SAVANNAH, MO. -
A court hearing in northwest Missouri became tense this week, with a prosecutor telling a 17-year-old murder defendant, "Remember the Alamo."
Andrew County prosecutor Steven Stevenson says the phrase poppped out as he searched for the "worst thing" he could say to Jose Quintero.
Quintero is charged with first-degree murder in the May death of Jose Antonio Maravilla-Vargas.
During a hearing Tuesday, Quintero looked at Stevenson and mumbled something. Stevenson told the teen to avert his gaze, which he did.
Quintero looked at Stevenson again as the hearing ended, prompting Stevenson to say, "Remember the Alamo."
The Alamo Mission in Texas was the site of an 1836 battle in which Mexican troops defeated outnumbered Texas defenders. During a battle weeks later, many Texans shouted, "Remember the Alamo!"
