KANSAS CITY, MO - Police are still looking for two men suspected of killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child and seriously injuring a man in a shooting in Midtown in Kansas City, Mo., on Friday evening.

According to police, the two were found shot in a car in front of an apartment building in the 1300 block of East Armour Road around 5:15 p.m. The woman, identified as Ashley Thomas, 25, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Medical staff were not able to save the unborn child.

The male, 19, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital where he is being treated with potentially life-threatening injuries.

"I made it pretty close to the car," said Kiana, who declined to give her last name. She said she at the scene and tried to help the victims, who were friends of hers, until an ambulance arrived.

"I held her hand, I held his hand," said Kiana. "I put her hand on the belly and the baby was moving at this point."

Kiana said she heard around seven or eight gunshots before finding the victims.

"They were really consistent, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow," said Kiana.

Nicole Bodiford, neighbor, said she saw the two gunmen race away from the scene. She said the pregnant woman was nothing but an innocent victim.

"It's crazy out there," said Bodiford. "It was scary to see someone so full of life all taken away from them in moments."

Kiana said this wasn't the first time that she's been put in a life or death situation, and this was nothing new for the neighborhood. She added that in the seven years she has been living in the apartment building, she has seen at least one homicide a year. But she said this one especially hurts.

"It's not worth it," said Kiana. "I mean it's not worth it. She's gone for nothing, for no reason at all."
