KANSAS CITY, MO -
Authorities have charged a man in the Midtown shooting death of a pregnant woman, but they are asking for the public's help in tracking him down.
Prosecutors have charged Calvin Boswell, 25, with two counts of murder in the death of Ashley Thomas, 25, and her unborn child, who doctors say was viable.
Thomas' family says that they are thankful for the charges. David Thomas says that his daughter, Ashley, was just nine days away from giving birth to a baby girl when she was murdered outside of her apartment building on Friday night.
"It was going to be a baby girl, Amaya McKenzie Thomas, and we got to view her yesterday and took picture and she's a beautiful baby," said Thomas, who said that his daughter was looking forward to giving birth after she gave birth to a stillborn child two years ago.
"This was her passion, this was what she wanted," said Thomas. "She wanted to be a Mom so bad."
Ashley, her boyfriend and another friend were in a car when police say that two men ran up to the vehicle, one of the firing several shots.
Ashley's boyfriend, who has not been identified, survived, barely, but was shot five times in the attack and is still hospitalized.
Police arrested Lionel Henderson on Monday, but detectives believe that he was acting as a look-out. The believe that Boswell was the actual gunman in the case. Police say that Ashley's boyfriend was able to identify both suspects from a photo lineup.
David Thomas hopes that it will be enough to win a conviction.
"If you was Ashley's friend, she would go to the end of the Earth to defend you, to help you," said Thomas.
The family is asking that anyone with information in the case to please call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
