What do you think is most exciting about the Royals right now?
KANSAS CITY, MO. -
The stands were packed and the crowd was excited. And, the Royals' golden boy pitcher, Zack Greinke, didn't disappoint. He pitched a complete game beating the White Sox 3-0.
The Attention
It's been years since a player has drawn as much attention as Greinke. Last week, he made the cover of Sports Illustrated. This week, he's in a front page spread in the sports section of USA Today.
With Monday night's win, it's the first 6-0 start for a pitcher in the Major Leagues this year.
The power of the "Zack Attack" is helping ticket sales. Single-game ticket sales are up 20% compared to last year and walk-up sales are 80% higher than last year.
The Game
Zack Greinke struck out 10 in a six-hitter and became the majors' first six-game winner with his second shutout in four starts, leading the Kansas City Royals to a 3-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.
More than 6,500 fans bought walk-up tickets -- pushing the attendance over 21,000 -- to watch Greinke pitch and he didn't disappoint.
The right-hander baffled the White Sox all night, working inside and out, up and down, slow and fast. Greinke (6-0) didn't walk a batter, dropped his ERA to 0.40 and pushed his majors-leading strikeout total to 54 during his third complete game of the season.
A.J. Pierzynzki and Scott Podsednik each had two hits for the White Sox.
