The Royals have traded infielder Tug Hulett to the Boston Red Sox for cash or a player to be named.
The 26-year-old infielder had been designated for assignment last week.
Hulett was claimed off waivers from Seattle last offseason and played in 15 games for Kansas City in this year, going 2-for-18 at the plate.
