KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A 23-year-old Kansas City groom is behind bars and charged with statutory rape after his 14-year-old bride's mother's boyfriend arranged their marriage.

The 14-year-old's aunt said this is the result of adults making poor decision for a child. The aunt said it all started when the 14-year old started asking her Muslim mother about sex.

"She did in fact get married because she was interested in sex," the aunt who did not want to be identified said. "And according to their religion, she needed to be married first."

Prosecutors said Vincent Mosby and the victim's mother's boyfriend arranged the marriage back in August. The marriage is not legal because it did not have a judge's order.

A neighboring mom, Candace Temple, found out about the ceremony through the kids.

"I'm like what? Disgusting. Just to know the parents allowed it is, it's disgusting," she said.

The 14-year old bride lived with her parents until her aunt called police. She said that's when she got a threatening call that demanded, "If you don't give me back my wife in 72 hours, I'm going to terrorize you."

The aunt's house is now marked by bullet holes from when she said someone shot at the house. But she stepped in for her niece, who is now living with her, so that someday she'll have options.

"She gets to have a choice in life, and I think that's important," she said.

Mosby admitted he was angry with the aunt and her family, but has denied shooting at the house.

The President of the Heartland Muslim Council, Nafees Mahmood, said the Holy Koran is very clear: you must obey the laws of the land.
