A Kansas City, Missouri cop was hospitalized after police said a man deliberately tried to run him over. Officer Mike Bowen was at the QuikTrip at 94th & Oak on a loitering and disturbance call just before midnight when a man on a motorcycle ran him over from behind.
Bowen, who has been on the force about six years, was questioning about a dozen young people on smaller motorcycles in the parking lot when he was hit.
"When I asked for IDs, two of them took off, and I tried to reach for one, the other one hit me in the back with his motorcycle," he said.
Bowen was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. Bowen said he was lucky he didn't break anything, and was just feeling sore.
"I would say right now I'm mainly upset about the disrespect for law enforcement," he said. "Nine times out of 10 all we want to do is talk to them."
Police have interviewed witnesses and are looking for a man his 20s wearing a black and gray jacket, no helmet and riding a Suzuki bike. The motorcycle they're looking for is either white or blue and will have front end damage.
A source close to the investigation said police get lots of complaints about motorcycles and speeders along 152 Highway and that they intimidate drivers and tease officers.
"We're not out to hurt anybody, we want to protect property and persons, basically like we've always done," Bowen said.
