Students at Shawnee Mission East spent Saturday morning raising funds to help students at another high school in Kansas City, Mo.

The chilly weather didn't stop students and supporters from Shawnee Mission East and Cristo Rey, in midtown running in the first ever Drum Run.

"Because of this run, we've gotten a lot of people to step up, said Sister Vickie Perkins, President of Cristo Rey." "We are really going to have a first class drum team."

Andrew Goble, a drummer at Shawnee Mission East helped with the event. Goble heard about Cristo Rey's struggles to start a drum line and decided to raise money to help out.

"My parents paid for my lesson and the school supplied drums for us," Goble said. "I thought this was a way to share the opportunity I've had with someone else and they can just play and practice."

Goble raised a lot of money through private donations. Sister Vickie said the event was a huge success and they expect their drum line to grow because of Saturday's event.
