KANSAS CITY, KAN - Police have identified the mother killed Wednesday morning. Shannon Crockett, 30, was found by her three children.

Kansas City, Kan. Police said they responded to a shots-fired call at a home in the 3500 block of North 60th Street in Kansas City, Kan. Police are calling the incident a murder and attempted suicide.

Inside the home they found a Crockett dead and a man, identified as her husband, David Crockett, injured, and the three young children, ranging in age from toddler to 12 years old. The kids were not hurt and have been released to a relative.

David Crockett was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and as of Wednesday afternoon remained in critical.

Police said the children heard their parents arguing overnight and then heard gunfire. That's when they called 911. Police say David Crockett shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.

Neighbors said they heard a gunshot in the early morning hours, and a minute later, another shot was fired.

"It's very sad for me because they were lovely people," said neighbor Janet Dillman. "I was very pleased when they moved in because they were such a nice young family. I thought I'd get to see the girls grow up. It was lovely and it was sad."

Police say that Crockett was confined to a wheelchair after a being shot several times, and neighbors say that caused a change in the couple's relationship.

"Recently, I noticed their hours were different," said Dillman. "It seemed to be a lot of coming and going. Short time frames at the house. That was just different."
