JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - What was thought to be a dangerous hostage situation in the Governor's Office building in Jefferson City was just a false alarm, according to Jefferson City police.

Officials at the scene said an employee heard someone announce "hostage" over the intercom and called building security. Captain Tim Hull from the Missouri Highway Patrol told the St. Louis Dispatch that there had been no confirmation that any hostage was involved.

In a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement said the building had been searched and there had been no problems located. Police Capt. Mike Smith says there were no arrests and no injuries. About 155 people were evacuated from the building.

An employee on the sixth floor said the report was coming from the fifth floor where the Office of the Public Service Commission is located. Around 10 a.m., the building was surrounded by emergency vehicles, state and local police. Police blocked off a one-block radius around the building as a precaution.
