Boyfriend on the Run After Battered Woman Seeks Neighbor's Help
GRAIN VALLEY, MO - What was reported to be a kidnapping and rape case in Grain Valley, Mo., Tuesday morning turned out to be a miscommunication between a neighbor and a battered woman.

Police said the battered woman and her boyfriend showed up at a home of the man's cousin Monday night in Grain Valley and asked to spend the night. The couple slept on the floor and on Tuesday morning the woman went outside to smoke a cigarette. That's when police said she went to a neighbor's home and said she needed help and needed to use the phone.

The neighbor, seeing the battered woman, then called police.

"Apparently, she had some bruising and marks on her face like she had been beat up or assaulted in some manner, and the neighbor called 911," said Aaron Ambrose, police chief.

Deputies arrived and took the woman to a Kansas City hospital for her injuries, but the boyfriend took off and police are trying to locate him at this time.

The couple who opened their home to the woman and her boyfriend are cooperating with police.
