KANSAS CITY, MO -
The Guardian Angels are making their presence known in the Waldo area. The controversial group of crime fighters hope they can help prevent another attack from a serial rapist.
The Guardian Angels said they were asked to patrol Waldo by residents concerned about the serial rapist. So, they hit the streets Saturday night. They're prepared to do what it takes to stop crime. The group's red berets, formations and hand signals give them a military style appearance. They don't carry weapons. They're out with flashlights to help deter crime in a neighborhood in need. They're trained in martial arts & self defense, but aren't out to hurt people, rather help people.
"We witness a crime, we will intervene and make a citizens arrest," said Guardian Angel, Chris Gabbert. "We will inform law enforcement, try to get them here, but we will detain the suspect and make a citizens arrest at that point."
Kansas City Police support the group's patrol efforts, but discourage anyone from taking the law into their own hands, unless a crime is in progress Police added detectives to the Waldo rapist case this week.
The suspect is described as a bald, black male 250 pounds, pitted cheeks, smells of smoke or exhaust.
Also this week, the reward doubled for information leading to an arrest. It's now $12,000. If you have any information concerning the Waldo rapist, call the tips hotline at (816) 747-TIPS.
