ST. JOSEPH, MO -
Many kids dream of playing high school varsity sports, but one athlete has taken it a step further. Heavin Warner is competing in six varsity sports this year at St. Joseph Senior High School in St. Joseph, Mo.
By the end of the year, Warner will have lettered in six sports. Some call her crazy. But her coaches say she's the most passionate, dedicated and hard-working teen they've ever seen.
This year, she's competing in varsity football, softball, basketball, cross-country, track, and soccer. It's a hectic schedule to juggle. She gets up at 6 a.m. and isn't home until after 7 p.m. But Warner manages to do it all and get straight As and was crowned homecoming princess this year.
She even has her sports prioritized. In case there's a conflict for example, games and track meets always come before any kind of practice.
As for adding more sports to her resume...
"No, I think I'm doing all the ones I really like," she said.
"She's a freak," said Greg Reynolds, head softball coach. "It's amazing what she's capable of doing and what she can do."
Although she admits it can be really hard at times, Warner said it's worth it because she's getting to do what she loves.
She's only a junior, but colleges are already scouting her. Warner said she hopes to get a scholarship doing the sport she loves most, track and field.
