Driver Killed in Two-Car Traffic Accident in Independence, Mo.
INDEPENDENCE, MO - Independence, Mo., police are investigating a two-vehicle accident that killed a 44-year-old Independence man. The crash happened Sunday on Valley View Road north of Heartland Drive around 11:30 a.m.

Police said the driver of a red 1991 Geo Prism heading southbound bound on Valley View Road veered off the road to the right and then overcorrected to the left, causing him to lose control. The Geo went into the oncoming lane and was struck by a gold 1994 Toyota Corolla that was northbound on Valley View Road.

The driver of the Geo was transported by ambulance to Centerpoint Medical center where he was later pronounced dead. There were no passengers in his vehicle. There were two occupants in the Toyota. They were also taken to Centerpoint Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was identified as a 65-year-old Blue Springs, MO man and the passenger in the vehicle was his wife, a 62-year-old woman, also a resident of Blue Springs.

It is unknown at this time what caused the driver of the Geo to veer off the road; however the crash remains under investigation.

This is the eighth traffic death in Independence for 2009 and the third that has occurred in three unrelated traffic crashes in the last three days.
