ATLANTA and KANSAS CITY - Atlanta police have made an arrest in the shooting death of Jasmine Lynn. Lynn was a student at Spelman College in Atlanta when she was shot and killed by a stray bullet as she walked to her dorm on campus.

Spelman is known for being a prestigious all-black school. Lynn had dreams of being a lawyer.

Lynn's Facebook page was full of messages of love and memories from friends at college and former classmates at Lincoln Prep in Kansas City.

The message from those she knew is that she is loved and will truly be missed.

Lynn's Twitter page spells it out clearly, saying, "I'm very ambitious and want a successful future."

Her mother, Constance Franklin, said her only daughter was the life of the party.

"She loved people," she said. "She loved people. And one thing about her, she had Christ in her life. Determined to go to church every Sunday."

Lynn's life was cut short early Thursday morning. Police said Lynn was walking with friends to her dorm from the Clark Atlanta University campus when they saw a person with a gun. When Lynn moved to get out of the way she was struck in the chest. A student walking with Lynn was shot in the wrist and treated at an area hospital.

"We are totally crushed," said friend Zandra Chase at a vigil for Lynn on Thursday night. "I cried like a baby this morning. It's been hard on all fo us."

"She was full of life, she had a good future ahead of her, and now its all gone," said Chase.

Clark Atlanta University officials said that one person was taken into custody at the scene.

The word of Lynn's death was spreading quickly through the close-knit hallway at Lincoln Prep where the 2008 graduate was a basketball player and member of the ROTC.

Sergeant Herman Brown worked with Lynn during her days in his ROTC program at Lincoln Prep in Kansas City and the news is almost too hard to bear.

"Jasmine was a conqueror, mover and a shaker and a go-getter," Sgt. Brown said.

"Whoever did it, I hope they just give their life to Christ," said Franklin, Lynn's mother.

On the Spelman College website, President Beverly Daniel Tatum said the school flag would be flown at half-mast and a campus meeting was planned.
