Parents Hope Last-Minute Protest Will Sway School Board's Decision
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - There's great anticipation Wednesday night about the Kansas City, Missouri school superintendent's plan to close 26 schools. The board is expected to vote on the proposal at 6:30 p.m.

Some parents are protesting at school board and hope their presence will put pressure on board members to vote against the superintendent's plan.

They say the plan is about dollars and cents but doesn't make sense for many of the kids in the school district.

For weeks, the Kansas City, Missouri School District has held public forums about the proposal Superintendent Dr. John Covington said will make schools more financially and educationally sound.

But what the school district views as a "right-sizing" plan, some parents see as the wrong plan for their kids.

"I believe this is going to be a big mistake for our children," said parent Diana Black.

Black said if the proposal is passed she'll look for other options to educate her children.

"My daughter that's 16, I'm taking her out," Black said. "She's not going to go to Central, she's not going to go to none of these other schools. I'm thinking of other alternatives for her."

Parents hope the board will vote against closing schools and go back to the table and give them more input on moving the school district forward.
