LIBERTY, MO - Surveillance video from a Culver's restaurant in Liberty captured a couple walking off with a donation can for Haiti earthquake victims.

Culver's stores in the metro had been collecting donations for Haiti with the American Red Cross.

On Thursday night, a man wearing a ball cap and a woman who appears to be pregnant came in and swiped the can off the front counter. At one point the woman lifts up the can, as if to read who the donations are intended for.

"We were pretty busy at the time, there were a lot of people in the restaurant at the time, no one was really eyeing them in particular," manager Nathan Hammer said.

The video shows that once the couple had their food, the man uses his to-go bags to hide the can, scoop it up and walk right on out. Nobody can say for sure how much was in the donation can.

"I've seen customers, drop in $10's, $20 bills," Hammer said.

"It's horrible, because everybody is trying to help out and everything and they're having a hard time as it is and we shouldn't be taking advantage of the Haiti people, we should be helping them," customer Sheila Harris said.

"It's awful, a lot of people, have a lot of nerve these days and it's getting worse," customer Natalie Prather said.

"The fact that she's pregnant, it's pathetic," customer Amy Boone said. "Maybe they were desperate, maybe they have no moral backing."

Liberty police are hoping anyone who recognizes the couple will call them, but the incident hasn't stopped Culver's from collecting donations for Haiti.
