Neighbors said they weren't surprised and said they had seen cars coming and going at all hours, then the swarm of officers Monday afternoon. They knew it had to be a meth lab.
The Street Crimes Unit found a suspect and a lab inside on Monday. The metro meth section of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department and the Clay County drug squad teamed up on the investigation after a tip led them to the home.
Because labs can be dangerous, everyone wore protective clothing and the suspect had to be decontaminated by firefighters before going downtown.
Police are concerned about all meth labs but this one sticks out. They said it looks like this suspect had a one pot cooking operation inside.
"It is volatile, the type of meth manufactured in the type of bottle used can rupture or burst into flames," Sgt. Tim Witcig with the KCMO Police Dept. said.
Police said this type of operation doesn't produce much meth, but the suspect also had materials for a full blown meth lab. Charges out of Clay County are expected soon.
