The parents of a missing Northland woman, Renee Pernice, want their grandchildren back from their son-in-law Shon. And they're going to court to do it.
Douglas and Linda Lockwood are trying to get custody of their grandsons, who are six and nine-years-old.
The Lockwoods claim in the petition that Shon Pernice is unfit and unable to care for the children.
The grandparents claim that he has left them alone on at least one occasion and they make a point that Pernice has been charged with a felony of stealing a gun. Police hit him with that count after his wife's disappearance in January.
The Lockwoods also claim he has brandished a gun in front of the children. The petition also claims that Pernice has attempted to cash accounts that are in his wife's name, accounts that were set up for the two children. The petition also says that Pernice has a number of outstanding bad checks with Argosy Casino.
Shon Pernice was not available for comment and the Lockwoods said they would not have any comment on their application for guardianship.
