One of the most anticipated openings of the summer is behind schedule. Operators of the Schlitterbahn water park near the Legends are refusing to say exactly when it will open, despite a prior promise of June.

A Schlitterbahn spokesman wouldn't go on camera, but now said the park hopes to open within a few weeks. Of the 13 attractions promised in phase one, FOX 4 could only see four under construction and no finished parking lot from SKYFOX.

The opening date has been the number one question from hotel operators to Wyandotte County's Visitor and Convention Bureau.

"It is hard and I think they're being very cautious in the answer, you hate to put a date out there and then the weather happens and then you have rain that happens so it is scary to put a date out there," Bridgette Jobe with the Wyandotte County Convention and Visitor's Bureau said.

A group with a "Shame on Schlitterbahn" sign on State Avenue has nothing to do with the delayed opening. That's the carpenter's union, who are upset with Schlitterbahn because they say they're not using local construction union workers as originally promised.
