Metro Charities Say Restaurant Left Them Holding the Bag
OVERLAND PARK, KAN - Several charities around the metro area say that a local restaurant never came through with donations promised to them from an August fundraiser.

The organizations say that the Adam's Rib restaurant in Overland Park, which has since closed, did not come through with funds generated from an"Ultimate Brisket Burger" eating contest, where local celebrities ate to their heart's content in hopes of helping out the charity of their choice.

Bryan Truta of Jack FM won the contest, and Pet Connection Animal Shelter was promised the $5,000 grand prize. Every charity that participated was guaranteed at least $250.

"They stole from lots of people, not only the animals by not having the money available, but they did a silent auction that day and all of the business around donated for the 10 to 12 charities that showed up," said Jason Huff of Pet Connection. "All of that money was supposed to be split up among all the charities involved and where is that money? That's just straight theft."

The owners of the restaurant have filed for bankruptcy, some of the charities think now they'll never see their money.

"If you made a commitment to support these charities, I think you need to step up by any means necessary," said Sarah Jordan of 1st Down for Downs Syndrome, which won $1,250 that they never received. "Every little bit counts, and it's just really sad cause this supports Kansas City. All of this money stays locally to help the different families that have children with Downs Syndrome."
