OVERLAND PARK, KAN -
A metro man who says that he is just trying to persuade people into opposing the culling of the deer population in Shawnee Mission Park poured a bucket of blood on himself as a protest against the planned deer hunt on Wednesday night.
Jason Miller of Lenexa said that he was protesting the planned deer cull because he says that the Johnson County Parks Board dismissed a no-kill plan "out-of-hand" in favor of shooting the animals.
The Parks Board recently approved the deer control plan to combat severe overcrowding in the deer population in the park.
Miller also says that he is upset over the secrecy of the shooting at the park, which he dubbed "Murder Park," as well.
"They want to shroud this in a veil of secrecy, won't tell us when they're shooting the deer," said Miller. "You guys (the media) can't go back there and film it, nobody can."
Miller then dumped a plastic bucket half-full of cow's blood that he says he got from a local butcher over his head while a small group of supporters cheered him on in the pouring rain.
Johnson County Parks Police say Miller could face a littering citation over the incident.
