PARKVILLE, MO -
Most insurance agents across the metro agree that a person would be foolish to drop their employer's group insurance policy. But for some families looking to save a buck, there might be cheaper options than employee plans available.
Licensed insurance agent Tom Morrill says these days he is helping families save cash by keeping the policy holder with the group insurance, and finding individual plans for their dependents.
"Frequently I can find a much better deal," said Morrill.
To consider if it would save your family cash, Morrill says compare the cost of insuring yourself versus the cost of covering you and a spouse or kids. And don't forget to think about pre-existing conditions, as he says they'll make it much tougher to find individual coverage.
"It's very true in insurance, the devil is in the details," said Morrill.
Morrill recommends talking to a local independent agent who can help you compare plans.
