LEXINGTON, MO. - Another member of a family facing child sex abuse charges in Lafayette County, Missouri has been charged with rape in connection with the case, as Darrel Wayne Mohler of Silver Springs, Fla., was charged Friday with two counts of rape of a child less than 14-years old stemming from 1986.

Court documents say the 72-year-old suspect was charged in Lafayette County. Officials at the Marion County, Fla., jail say the he is being held at the jail Friday evening.

When asked to comment on the case Thursday before he was charged, Darrel W. Mohler told The Associated Press from his home in Florida that he found the reports of child abuse "unspeakable."

"I can't think of words that would put this in perspective. I find it repulsive if it's true," he said.

Mohler said he was a disabled veteran suffering from various ailments, including lung disease.

Mohler said Thursday that he never had been close to his older brother Burrell Mohler Sr., and was "appalled by the allegations." He said he has a 16-year-old granddaughter "and that'd be like me messing with her, and the thought is repulsive. I'm glad I don't have that gene, God darn."

He did not immediately return calls Friday seeking comment on the charges.

Five other men were charged earlier this week with several felonies, including forcible sodomy, rape with a child younger than 12 and use of a child in a sexual performance.

According to the probable cause statement from the Lafayette County Prosecutors Office, Darrel Mohler is accused of raping two of his young female relatives, aged five and six at the time, during a sleepover at a home near their grandfathers house in 1987.

Prosecutors say that after Darrel Mohler left the room, the girl's grandfather, Burrell Mohler, Sr., came into the room and told the crying girls that they should be careful because "waterbeds have been known to pop and they might drown in their sleep."

Burrell Edward Mohler Sr., 77, and his four adult sons Burrell Edward Mohler Jr., 53, David A. Mohler, 52, Jared Leroy Mohler, 48, and Roland Neil Mohler, 47 had already been charged with sex crimes that occurred between March 1988 and March 1995, according to prosecutors.

Larry Kidd, 55, from Kansas City, Missouri, was arrested in connection to the case on Thursday night, but Lafayette County authorities say that he has been released. Authorities say that Kidd was identified as an associate of the Mohler family, but he was cooperating with their investigation and is not currently facing any charges.

Officials say that "numerous" more charges are pending against the men. Authorities say that they have halted the search of the rural home where the crimes allegedly took place for the weekend, but will continue on Monday.
