KANSAS CITY, MO -
The American Red Cross of Greater Kansas City is postponing its seasonal flu shot clinics through October 31 as they say that vaccine shipments have yet to arrive. However, vaccine providers have informed the Red Cross that it will receive all the vaccine it ordered.
"The good news is that this is not a vaccine shortage," said Warren Hawblitzel, Chapter health and safety director, in a statement. "The delay means that we will probably be very busy when the clinics restart, but there is still plenty of time for the public to get the shot and be protected."
The peak of seasonal flu season is from January to March.
Hawblitzel says staff will begin rescheduled clinics once the vaccine arrives and will continue as long as people want them.
The Chapter had received 4,000 doses of the vaccine before the first clinics started on September 14. More shipments were expected by October 1, but did not arrive. Officials began postponing clinics on October 7.
