Storm Forces Churches to Cancel Services
TOPEKA, KAN. - Dozens of churches across Kansas have canceled Christmas Eve services because of the winter storm.

By midday Thursday, The Topeka Capital-Journal had listed more than two dozen churches across northeast Kansas on its Web site. About three dozen cancellations were listed by KAKE-TV in Wichita.

One such casualty was the 9 p.m. service at First United Methodist Church in Valley Center, north of Wichita.

Pastor Dennis Livingston says he worried about worshippers traveling through blowing snow after dark. But the church was still planning its 4:30 p.m. service.

In Seneca, about 65 miles northwest of Topeka, St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church dropped a special 5:15 p.m. Mass in its school auditorium because a guest priest couldn't make it. Masses at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the church itself were still scheduled.
