GRANDVIEW, Mo. -
A woman sitting on a bench outside a car wash was killed Thursday when the driver of an SUV appeared to lose control and drove into the woman.
Sgt. Joe McKinstry with Grandview Police said a 66-year-old Leawood man was leaving Grandview Car Wash when he said his SUV malfunctioned and the accelerator stuck. Two women waiting for their cars in the car wash were hit.
One of the victims was a 40-year-old south Kansas City woman who was pronounced dead at the hospital from massive internal injuries. The second woman, 66 years-old and also from South Kansas City, was listed in stable condition. Her leg was broken in four places.
Police said the driver was shaken-up, but uninjured. The case is still under investigation.
